Evergreen Espresso drive through coffee

Espresso Evergreen drive through coffee

It’s nice to see that Espresso Evergreen is open again!  It’s also nice to see that this drive through coffee shop is doing well enough to build a more permanent building!  They certainly do a great job at coffee and the smoothies, which my kids LOVE!

Thanks for coming back!

Three Sisters Hidden Fawn Trail

Hidden Fawn Train in 3 Sisters Open Space Park - Evergreen, CO - September 5, 2009.

Hidden Fawn Train in 3 Sisters Open Space Park - Evergreen, CO - September 5, 2009.

A great hike today at Three Sisters around the Hidden Fawn Trail.  As you can tell, it was a beautiful day!  It’s hard to believe it’s September already and the Aspens are starting to turn.  It seems way too soon for it to be September.  Fortunately, the wonderful weather now is making up for all the rain we had earlier in the summer.

The Hidden Fawn Trail is 1.2 miles and is relatively flat and easy to do for small children.  We had our 2 and they did awesome on it!  It’s also a great mountain bike ride and we saw a lot of bikers going around it in addition to some other hikers.  I think this will be my next warm up mountain bike ride this weekend.  Then up and over the sisters for a bit more of a challenge.  Then probably across the highway up Evergreen Mountain for a good work out of the day!

Grafitti on The Evergreen Lake Statue

August 28, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

This is a real bummer.  The other day we were at the lake and our kids noticed someone had drawn faces on the statue a the Lake House.  In Sharpie even.  I’ve never understood why anyone felt they had the right to destroy something that someone else spent so much time on and is enjoyed by so many people each day.  Obviously, this person’s (or people’s) parents didn’t teach them this sort of respect.  Hopefully, someone will have some Tolulene or some other highly potent and dangerous chemical to clean it off soon.

It’s also too bad that whoever did this can’t draw…

LogoJust got back from The Splash in Golden. What a great place! So glad that Summer finally arrived on August 22. Had a great time with some friends and the kids. If you want some great, relaxing fun at a pool, this is the place to be!   There’s still lot’s of time to go and enjoy.  Get there early (they open at 10 am) so you can get a shady spot if it’s hot.

Did Paragon Sports close?

August 21, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

A short while back, I had heard that Paragon Sports was about to close!  And then apparently it did.  Then, tonight, a friend called and said they were having a great big sale and that we’d better get over there.  We loaded up the kids and headed over and low and behold, they are having a sale.  30% to 70% off of EVERYTHING!

Turns out the old owners got it back from the new owners (for some reason) and are building it new again!  It won’t be Paragon Sports anymore though, the new name will be Boone Mountain Sports.  So get over there now to help them out by buying up their current inventory at great discounts so they can get new stuff!  They’re great people with great stuff and I know they’ll do well!

Evergreen Parade of Homes House

June 7, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

The Evergreen Design Center in Evergreen has a beautiful entry in the 2009 Parade of Homes “Luxury Home Tour” this summer.  The Design Center is led by Mountain Home and Pangaea Carpets and are located in the old barn on Meadow Drive that used to house The Hardware for many years.   They were asked to decorate the home by its builder, Landmark Homes, of Colorado.  It’s a beautiful, 7,500-square-foot home located at 650 Golden Willow Rd, in the Upper Bear Creek area.

From Denver Luxury Home Tour:

According to Kay D’Evelyn La Montagne, owner of Mountain Home, Evergreen-area designers, merchants and craftspeople collaborated to create a contemporary mountain living environment that is both elegant and comfortable.  The home uses geothermal heat, and designers sought to create natural warmth in the décor as well.  Along with Mountain Home and Pangaea Carpets, Rocky Mountain Log Furniture and Mountain Kitchen & Bath gleaned from a range of styles to enhance the home’s modern lines and rustic, reclaimed materials.  Stunning original art, distinctive home furnishings, hand-made carpets from the Far East, one-of-a-kind accessories, and first-rate fittings and fixtures were incorporated to accomplish their vision.

Other local businesses contributed to the home as well.  Visitors will see everything from the signature, reclaimed barn wood and hand-wrought iron pieces created by Evergreen-based Cocopa, to a beautiful bed made of wood from Bromwich Castle in England.  Spirits in the Pines, Wendy Lami of Material Things, Stems and Budget Blinds donated their time and creative expertise, and all bedding linens were custom made locally.

La Montagne is particularly proud that the home features more than 20 pieces of art, all original and all created by local and regional artists.  Betsy Buckner, Tricia Bass, Margaretta Caesar,  Victoria Thomas, “Mac” McEldowney, Tom Ware and Tom Woodward supplied oil and acrylic paintings, photographic art, sculptures of bronze and wood and mineral art.  In addition, original rock and roll posters from the ‘60s dot the inviting recreation room.

The Evergreen Design Center is a cooperative association of four kindred businesses: Mountain Home, Mountain Kitchen & Bath, Pangaea Carpets and Rocky Mountain Log Furniture. The businesses serve as a one-stop shop for homeowners looking for handpicked and handcrafted fine furniture, exceptional carpets, original artwork, unique home accessories, lighting, window treatments, and kitchen and bath furnishings.  The Design Center specializes in personal service, large selections and honest pricing.  View the wide variety of merchandise and design services from the expansive showrooms in the old Barn and Bunkhouse of the historic Hiwan Homestead at 27965 Meadow Drive in downtown Evergreen.

The 2009 Parade of Homes “Luxury Home Tour” runs Fridays-Sundays, June 5-July 5.  For details, visit www.denverluxuryhometour.com.

Three Sisters Hike with Purple Iris

June 6, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment

photo-4We went for a late hike yesterday to Three Sisters to walk around the meadow look and let the kids climb on the rocks.  We had a great time!  I also found out for the first time that this time of year the meadow is FULL of beautiful, wild, Purple Iris!  They were incredibly stunning and I have never seen them growing in the wild before and I would highly recommend going out there soon to see them. (also saw some bluebirds too!)

The trail we were on was the Bluebird Meadow and Wild Iris Loop from the upper (west) parking lot off of Buffalo Park Road.  This is a great place to start hiking as it pretty gentle and out in the open and you have good access to the 3 Sisters and the Brother.

The Alderfer/Three Sisters Park has 770 acres of open space and over 10 miles of trail for hiking and mountain biking and connects to the Evergreen Recreation District property.   There are some really nice short loops that you can do late in the day after work and some longer loops you can do for a good half day experience.

photo-3The spectacular views from the Sisters and the Brother include views of town, and Evergreen Lake.

Deer

So I’m not one to usually take pictures of deer here in Evergreen as they are just like the squirrels in Virginia-they’re everywhere and I rarely photographed them when I lived there too.
But here are a couple that wandered under our carport today. Maybe to get out of the rain. But, I thought it interesting enough to snap a couple shots as you don’t ever get this close to them.

Cows in Buchanan park!

Did anyone see the cows at Buchanan park Saturday? Did anyone get any pictures? It was very strange to drive into the Rec center and see two black cows lounging on the field… Post a reply if you have pics of them!
