Earth Day at Evergreen Lake House
April 24, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
The annual Earthday celebration at The Lake House seemed to be a nice success, despite the cold and early snow. It wasn’t nearly as well attended in the past, but even so, it was nice to see so many people out today, learning more about Earth Day. And it sure looked like a beautiful day!
Thawing Evergreen Lake

I took a nice walk around evergreen lake today and saw it was melting pretty quickly. I took a hike up to near this Geocache and took this pretty interesting panorama shot with my iPhone (Pano app).
It’s pretty much just a slush pond right now, but you can still see the remains of the ice rinks and on the near side, you can see the open stream that feeds the lake. I’m sure that before we know it, it’ll be frozen and we’ll be ice skating on Evergreen Lake again!
Grafitti on The Evergreen Lake Statue

This is a real bummer. The other day we were at the lake and our kids noticed someone had drawn faces on the statue a the Lake House. In Sharpie even. I’ve never understood why anyone felt they had the right to destroy something that someone else spent so much time on and is enjoyed by so many people each day. Obviously, this person’s (or people’s) parents didn’t teach them this sort of respect. Hopefully, someone will have some Tolulene or some other highly potent and dangerous chemical to clean it off soon.
It’s also too bad that whoever did this can’t draw…
Three Sisters Hike with Purple Iris

We went for a late hike yesterday to Three Sisters to walk around the meadow look and let the kids climb on the rocks. We had a great time! I also found out for the first time that this time of year the meadow is FULL of beautiful, wild, Purple Iris! They were incredibly stunning and I have never seen them growing in the wild before and I would highly recommend going out there soon to see them. (also saw some bluebirds too!)
The trail we were on was the Bluebird Meadow and Wild Iris Loop from the upper (west) parking lot off of Buffalo Park Road. This is a great place to start hiking as it pretty gentle and out in the open and you have good access to the 3 Sisters and the Brother.
The Alderfer/Three Sisters Park has 770 acres of open space and over 10 miles of trail for hiking and mountain biking and connects to the Evergreen Recreation District property. There are some really nice short loops that you can do late in the day after work and some longer loops you can do for a good half day experience.
The spectacular views from the Sisters and the Brother include views of town, and Evergreen Lake.
