Please join The Evergreen Design Center on Friday, July 29th from 5:00 until 8:00 as they welcome Melanie Warinske (Nuchols), former president of the Evergreen Chamber and one of Colorado’s most original artists at their July Artist Reception. Melanie’s powerful combination of metal, wood and found objects are centerpieces of private homes and corporate offices throughout the country. The Evergreen Design Center is privileged to show her work  at the Evergreen Design Center Friday the 29th.
Receptions are an informal and family-friendly way to spend a summer evening. Here is the schedule of other great local artists coming to the Evergreen Design Center this summer:

We’ve had EDS Waste Solutions for a long time, probably about 8 years.  But we spent a lot of time collecting all of our recycling in the basement and hauling it to the King Soopers recycling center.  We really wanted Curb-Side recycling, which EDS offers, but for an additional cost, and you need to use your own containers.

Then we heard from some friends about Mountain View and that they offer free Curb-Side recycling and give you free cans too!!  We’ve been using these really old trash cans, but they’re really beat up and falling apart and hard to haul around.  When we found that Mountain View would bring us 2 free cans, we were sold and immediately switched.

The Recycling is great!  Single Stream and they take just about everything.  We’re OK with a small box of some recycling that we take to King Soopers every now and then.  Mostly, we’ll need to take the non-corrugated cardboard, but beyond that, Single Stream, Curb-Side Recycling is a big WIN for us.

(A note to EDS:  We’ve had several other families switch just because we did and the Mountain View deal is so good.  If you had a similar deal, we would not have switched.  It might be time to re-examine your offerings to be more competitive.)

I’ve been to Java Groove many, many times since it opened a couple years ago.  Took a small hiatus while working out of town, but now that I’m back in Evergreen full time for a while, I’ve come back and it’s as nice and comfortable as ever – maybe even more so.  While their web site remains under construction (contact me if you need help), it must be because their putting all their effort into running a great coffee shop.

I thought free air was a thing of the past, but when I noticed my tires were a bit low today, I happened to be going by the Evergreen Car Wash behind the Conoco on Highway 74 just north of the lake, I saw the “Free Air” sign and turned in.  It was nice because all 4 tires needed air and it would have cost me a few dollars to fill them all up otherwise.  Thanks for the free air!  Next time I need a car wash, I’ll be back.

Pumpkins from JP Total

It’s time for pumpkins again and since it was fairly cold and a little drizzly, we stayed close to home.  We had planned on going to Chatfield, but decided to go to JP total and find some pumpkins.  As always, they have a lot of nice pumpkins of all shapes and sizes along with gourds and some really delicious Apple Cider from Palisade.

While they tend to be a bit more expensive than the grocery stores, then pumpkins are good and it’s fun to let the kids run around a bit and be able to see and choose them much more easily than taking the top pumpkin from a big box.

The seeds from this fine, orange scary face are large and full and are soaking tonight in salt water to be toasted tomorrow.  It’s a bit more work to get the seeds out, but they make a great snack and are very simple to make.

Carving it out with my daughter tonight brought back many memories of Halloween’s gone by.  Years of costumes and candy, to me, from me and now to my kids with me.  I’ve never been a huge fan of Halloween, but always participated because it was a day to have some fun and be with friends.  But now, seeing it through my kids eyes, it brings new light and inspiration as they get more and more excited as each day brings them closer to Halloween…

Espresso Evergreen drive through coffee

It’s nice to see that Espresso Evergreen is open again!  It’s also nice to see that this drive through coffee shop is doing well enough to build a more permanent building!  They certainly do a great job at coffee and the smoothies, which my kids LOVE!

A short while back, I had heard that Paragon Sports was about to close!  And then apparently it did.  Then, tonight, a friend called and said they were having a great big sale and that we’d better get over there.  We loaded up the kids and headed over and low and behold, they are having a sale.  30% to 70% off of EVERYTHING!

Turns out the old owners got it back from the new owners (for some reason) and are building it new again!  It won’t be Paragon Sports anymore though, the new name will be Boone Mountain Sports.  So get over there now to help them out by buying up their current inventory at great discounts so they can get new stuff!  They’re great people with great stuff and I know they’ll do well!
